The Decmeberists announced today the inaugural Travelers’ Rest, coming to Big Sky Brewing Company Amphitheater in Missoula, Montana on August 12-13, 2017. The two-day festival brings together more than 15 artists across two stages, curated by The Decemberists.
The Decemberists will be headlining both days of the festival, playing two unique sets, with other confirmed artists announced including Belle and Sebastian, The Head and the Heart, Sylvan Esso, Shakey Graves, Charles Bradley and his Extraordinaires, Real Estate, and Julien Baker. Additional artists will be announced later this spring.
The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy has a special connection to Montana—born and raised in Helena he also attended the University of Montana in Missoula—and is very excited to be putting this event together for both Montanans and music fans from around the region. “Growing up, it drove me crazy how many national touring bands skipped Montana altogether,” Meloy said. “I’m glad we can do our small part to bring more music to the area.”
Weekend passes go on sale this Friday, March 24 at 10am MT at http://bigskybrewconcerts.com for $79.50. A VIP weekend pass option is also available for $149.50 (with upgraded amenities, premium viewing area, a festival poster signed by the band and more). $1.00 of every ticket sold will benefit ACLU Montana, and the band plans to use the festival to shine a spotlight on several other such progressive-minded organizations working locally around the state. Since the 2015 release of their seventh studio album What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, the band has announced the creation of their board game Illimat and celebrated the 10th anniversary of their audacious 2006 Capitol Records debut The Crane Wife with the release of a limited edition deluxe vinyl box set. The band will kick off a run of 10 East Coast concerts on April 7 that culminates in a 3-night stand at Brooklyn Steel in New York City April 17-19.
