That is a big question that comes up time and time again when discussing recycling: does the benefit of recycling outweigh the cost of doing so?
While environmentally, it is absolutely a benefit, but on the economical side of the coin, it's a mixed bag.
For certain items, such as aluminum cans, the cost does outweigh it, yet for something like glass, it's more of a wash, according to Popular Mechanics.

The Reason It's Almost Impossible To Recycle In Montana
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality says the biggest reason for the difficulty when it comes to recycling in Montana is because of how big our state is.
With such a large geographical area, it's harder to have a statewide recycling program.
That means it's left up to cities themselves to start recycling centers, but that requires enough people to do it to make it worthwhile, which is hard to justify thanks to our smaller population totals.
And in light of the fact that, as you'll see below, there are plenty of items that you can't recycle at all, it makes sense why recycling isn't as popular in Montana as in more populated states.
