It is not exactly a secret that Montana has a problem when it comes to drinking and driving.
It has been known for years that this is an issue, but it is still sad when you see that 4 counties in Montana are in the top 21 for "Worst Counties For DUI Fatalities."

It's Not Just Montana That Sticks Out
This is not a good look for Montana having 4 out of the top 21 counties. That is a fifth of the whole list just from our state alone.
It goes beyond just Montana, however, because, as you will see below, 16 of the 21 counties on the list are located in the western half of America.
What is it about our neck of the woods that people think it is okay to get behind the wheel after having some drinks?

Sobering Statistics Regarding DUI Fatalities
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that in 2022 (the most recent data available) there were 71 alcohol impaired fatalities out a total of 213 total fatalities in Montana.
And that is down from the year prior, which saw 239 total fatalities in which 102 were alcohol-related deaths from people driving under the influence.
The percentage of driver deaths due to drinking and driving ranges from 28% to almost 40% in the Montana counties that you will see in the gallery below.
