A Familiar Landmark In Great Falls Gets An Update

For as long as I lived in Great Falls, the Black Eagle Community Center has had that big bowling pin sign out front. It was one of those things you just got used to seeing every time you drove by.

That sign is officially gone now, but this is not bad news. It has been replaced with a brand new sign, and it looks pretty sharp.

A New Bowling Pin Sign With A Modern Touch

The Black Eagle Community Center showed off the new look on Facebook, giving a shout-out to Gary at Hill Signs for the work.

Instead of the old single bowling pin, the new sign features all 10 pins and it looks to even include a video display that can be used for announcements and updates.

If you are wondering why they did not just fix or restore the old sign, there is a pretty simple reason. Greg Schoby, the general manager of the center, explained that the plywood was so old it basically fell apart when they tried to take it down.

The Black Eagle Community Center’s Deep Local History

The building was originally owned by the Anaconda Copper Company. When the company went under, the building was sold to the town of Black Eagle, Montana for just ten dollars.

These days, the community center is home to eight bowling lanes, a large banquet space that can hold around 350 people, and VFW Post 4669.
