In reality, we're ranked 31st with 150,446 miles of highway, but it's a 10-mile stretch in Montana that sees the most fatalities each year.

Fatal Car Accidents In Montana
Honestly, for as much as we HAVE to drive, we rank pretty low for fatal crashes when it comes to total fatalities.
In 2023, there were 203 fatal car crashes, according to the Montana Department of Transportation. So far in 2024 we've seen 129, or two more than last year for the same time frame.
However, when looking at the rate of car accident deaths per 100,000, Montana would jump up into the top 10 across America.

The Most Deadly Highways In Montana
If you were to ask, "What is the most deadly highway in Montana?" you'd get plenty of different answers depending on who you asked and where they live.
US Highway 93, with its numerous animal accidents, would rank pretty high. Heck, you can even buy bumper stickers that say "Pray For Me, I Drive 93." It's that bad.
US Highway 191 might not be so bad during the summer months, but the winter you'll be white knuckling it the whole way.
