Found A Dryer Sheet In Your Mailbox In Montana? Here’s The Reason
The other day one of my friends made an offhand comment to me about how they recently found a dryer sheet in their mailbox.
That comment stuck with me, and I had to find out more.

My first thought was "does my mailbox smell?"
So I went out there and smelled it, hopefully none of my neighbors saw me.
Alas there was no smell that made me think someone would put a dryer sheet in mine.
Someone however put it in my friends mailbox, but who?
Was it a neighbor? Perhaps it was the mail carrier.
When Google doesn't have the answer for me, I use a little trick of adding Reddit to my question.
Wouldn't you know it, it lead me to the answer.
The best part of getting the answer, it's not for some nefarious reason.
This isn't some secret sign for criminals targeting your house.
The other thing is that it is indeed your mail carrier putting those dryer sheets in your mailbox, and not because they want your bills to smell like lavender.
No the real reason is to protect the mail carrier from wasps and yellow jackets.
The scent of those dryer sheets keeps those nasty little buggers from building their nests this time of year in Montana.
Here's what one Redditor said regarding the dryer sheets
I can’t tell you how many times, especially during this part of the year, where I’ve opened up a box to see a little nest with 3-5 Yellowjackets just chillin. If I’m really unlucky, they will have made their nest at the very back of the box so I wind up sticking my hand in not knowing they are there. We all know how temperamental these little douchebags are and merely existing in their presence is enough to piss them off. Last year alone I was stung 10 times on 10 separate occasions.
So if you see a dryer sheet in your mailbox don't worry about it, just leave it there to protect your mail carrier.
Better yet, go put one out there right now for the safety of both of you.
