If you've driven down 6th St. north or south in Great Falls recently, you've probably noticed a lot of equipment and construction crews in the area.

Well, needless to say, it's almost summer in Montana so that can only mean one thing; Road Construction!

Construction crews will be resurfacing this chunk of the road and performing a few other improvement projects while in the area.

6th Street Road Construction, Great Falls

Needless to say, this construction will cause some delays, and detours are inevitable.

The road crews will be removing the existing concrete surface and replace it entirely.

The areas of construction will be...

  • 6th Street SW from American Avenue to Central Avenue West

  • Fox Farm Road from Alder Drive to 10th Avenue South

  • 6th Street NW from Central Avenue West to the NW Bypass

Sixth Avenue Construction Project

The project's goal is to replace the deteriorating pavement and freshen up the surface of Sixth Avenue.

Various other treatments, such as joint ceiling and surface grinding, will also be performed to prolong the road's life.

Upgrades to curbs, gutters, and medians will help improve Sixth Street's drainage and overall integrity.

They will also update the sidewalks to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and storm drain improvements are included in the plan.

Additionally, a gas main along 6th Street SW will be replaced during construction to prevent future disruptions.

Sixth Avenue Construction Timeline

According to the Montana Department of Transportation, this project should be wrapped up by fall, weather permitting.

Ever hit an animal while driving in Montana? It’s an unfortunate reality of life on the road here, and while some critters can scurry off unscathed, others aren’t so lucky.
