Besides Egg Costs, Here’s Why Breakfast Prices Are Soaring
Over the last few years, grocery prices have skyrocketed throughout America, putting a strain on many people's budgets.
It's hard to get in and out of a grocery store for under $100.
And get this, the meal that some would say is the most important of the day, has seen some of the most significant price hikes.
Cost of Breakfast
You might think the recent egg price surge is the only thing impacting breakfast prices.
However, other breakfast staples, such as coffee, orange juice, and even beef, have also seen a huge increase.
According to an article I found from FOXBusiness News, eggs saw a staggering 8.2% pricing increase in November alone, with eggs now costing as much as $5.77.
That's a 146.6% jump from 2023.
Obviously, avian influenza is the main driving force behind these higher prices, but overall inflation is certainly not helping.
Coffee Prices
Ground coffee also surged 11% over the past year, hitting record highs.
This was primarily due to weather, disturbances in key coffee-producing areas like Brazil and Columbia.
Orange Juice Prices
Another popular breakfast staple has also felt the squeeze.
The price increases of orange juice were primarily due to Florida orange growers experiencing citrus greening disease.
Orange prices have increased by about 90% over the past five years and are currently around $4.77 per pound.
Beef Prices
If you're hoping to grab a steak with your eggs, buckle up because beef prices have also skyrocketed.
Restaurant Pricing
I can't even fathom being a restaurant owner in today's day and age.
You would have to change your prices almost daily just to keep up with the inflation I would think.
Nonetheless, get out and support your local mom-and-pop restaurants!
