
BREAKING: Suspect In Cascade County Homicide Is In Custody
Cascade County Sheriff's Office shared a huge update in the ongoing homicide investigation of Terrell Johnson, 25-year-old.
And this time, they have a person in custody.
Cascade County Homicide Update: Arrest Is Made
On Thursday morning, Sheriff Jesse Slaughter shared a massive update regarding the investigation and shared that an arrest has been made.
"We have made an arrest in this case," Sheriff Slaughter said in the video, "The individual that is in custody at this time is Lane Gibson, a 20-year-old male."
According to a press release and jail records from Cascade County, Gibson is being charged with Tampering With Witness/Informant, Justice Court Contempt, and Obstructing A Peace Officer Or Other Public Servant.

"This investigation is still ongoing, we are still making progress," Sheriff Slaughter said in the video.
"I'm hoping in the next day or two to have updates in this case but we're working hard and trying to bring this horrible, tragic incident to justice."
Cascade County Homicide Update: Why Was Lane Gibson Arrested And Charged?
Law enforcement released a very detailed press release about the arrest of Gibson, providing every detail leading up to his detainment.
"On January 27th, 2026, the Eighth Judicial District Court authorized an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Lane Gibson following the filing of a felony charge of Tampering with Witnesses or Informants, in violation of Montana Code Annotated § 45-7-206(1)(a)," the release read.

"The charge stems from actions Gibson allegedly took during the ongoing homicide investigation."
Here's what led up to that warrant according to the release:
According to court documents, investigators developed probable cause that Gibson attempted to influence a potential witness to provide false information about his whereabouts in the early morning hours of January 9th, 2026. He allegedly took these actions after learning a criminal investigation was underway.
I'm no judge, nor do I work in law enforcement but that has to be a bad look, right? Despite how guilty this might make Gibson look; law enforcement is combing through every detail to get every piece of information possible out of this case.
"The homicide investigation is ongoing, and investigators continue to take additional steps," the official press release said.
"Further charges may be considered as the investigation progresses. Gibson is considered a person of interest and is believed to have been with the victim in the hours leading up to the homicide."
According to jail records, Gibson was taken into custody at round 5:08 AM on Wednesday morning (1/28/26).
Cascade County Homicide Update: What's Next For The Case?
According to the release, Gibson's "bail has been set at $150,000, and the charge carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a $50,000 fine, or both, if convicted."
"As always, all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."
