Whether we like it or not, the tech age we're living in has become a mine field of sorts. Between the misinformation that's regularly spread on social media and now, artificial intelligence, our reality has become more distorted than ever before.

Even worse, bigger tech companies are experiencing the same struggles.

Scammers Have Googled Fooled

I would imagine that if you're a hacker who is able to hack or trick a company like Google, you feel like you won the Super Bowl.

A developer named Nick Johnson shared with the publication PC Mag shared he was "targeted by an extremely sophisticated phishing attack [that] exploits a vulnerability in Google's infrastructure."

Our company does its best to keep us our toes by sending "fake" phishing emails to see if we can spot the same. If you're like some of us who completely ignore these emails (sorry boss!), phishing is "a type of cyberattack that uses fraudulent emails, text messages, phone calls, or websites to trick people into sharing sensitive data, downloading malware or otherwise exposing themselves to crime," according to IBM.

Again - these scammers used this type of attack to trick Google. Let that sink in!

Unfortunately, the days of recognizing spam emails appear to be long gone. With technology continuing to evolve and AI being utilized by scammers to reach their goals, we have to do what we can to stay vigilant.

What Can You Do To Stay Safe From Google Scams?

It's probably a great idea to get yourself an authenticator app and make sure you regularly update your passwords. It could be annoying but it can also keep your personal information safe

If you're ever unsure about an email being a scam, remain patient and forward it to a legitimate support source like Google Support and have them look it over for you.
