Montana DOJ Shares Latest Update on Drug Crackdown

Montana law enforcement has been hard at work lately. When it comes to cracking down on drums, law enforcement has especially busy and have the numbers to back it all up.

Montana Department of Justice Provide Drug Seizure Update

Montana's Department of Justice shared an update on cocaine and methamphetamine seizures through the first quarter and spoiler: it's good news.

According to the Montana Department of Justice, "cocaine and methamphetamine seizures increased in Montana during the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same time last year" but did say that fentanyl seizures "continued to decline."

That decline has to be good thing... right? Or am I crazy?

Either way, Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen says their work is far from finished.

"Fentanyl and other dangerous drugs continue to threaten communities, and the battle against the cartels that are bringing them into our state is far from over," Attorney General Knudsen said in his statement, "Montana’s anti-drug task forces continue to aggressively target drug traffickers and adapt to changing trends."

"The Montana Department of Justice remains committed to seizing illegal drugs before they reach our communities."

Montana's 2026 Crackdown on Drugs by the Numbers

Let's start with methamphetamine for the first quarter of 2026 compared to 2025's first quarter numbers. The Montana DOJ says 130 pounds of meth has been seized in the first quarter of 2026 which is up 26 pounds or 133% more than last year's first quarter.

Officials have also seized 14 pounds of cocaine in 2026 which is double compared to the 7 pounds seized last year.

When it comes to fentanyl, officials have seized 30,179 doses of fentanyl in the first quarter of 2026 versus the 31,506 doses seized in the first quarter of last year.

Year to date, the Montana DOJ says they've seized more than 70 pounds of meth, 23 pounds of marijuana, 35 weapons, and $43,557 in cash.
