Why is Many Glacier Access Being Restricted for Vehicles
- Despite it being the height of tourist season in Montana, Glacier National Park has announced vehicle restrictions at a popular part of the park
- Construction in the Swiftcurrent area of the park including Many Glacier is limiting areas for personal vehicle parking
- Access is still available via a park shuttle for recreationists wishing to hike the Many Glacier area
Why is Many Glacier Access Being Restricted for Vehicles
There is a not so funny saying about some of the "seasons" that happen in Montana. Or maybe don't happen.
"There are two seasons in Montana - construction and winter."
And since our construction season is quite short, many times it can interfere with some of the most popular places within the state, including national parks like Glacier.
Many Glacier Under Construction Causing Vehicle Restrictions
According to the National Park Service and Glacier National Park, the restrictions for vehicles are part of the construction project begun in 2024 in the area:
The road past Many Glacier Hotel at the T-intersection will be closed due to construction on the Swiftcurrent Water Distribution System and Swiftcurrent Spur Road rehabilitation. The construction area is closed to vehicles, bikes, and foot traffic. Construction began in the fall of 2024 and will continue through mid-May 2026.

Due to heavy use in the area, personal vehicles will be restricted from July 1st to September 21, 2025. Certain areas within the construction zone are completely restricted to vehicle, bike or foot traffic also.
