Good Golly! Gmail Gets Got Again with New Phishing Scam

Long before the advent of Artificial Intelligence, or AI, fooling us into believing that cats are riding unicycles and playing the banjo while we sleep, hackers and cyber criminals have been trying to do just that.  Fool us.

Hopefully, you haven't had the misfortune of coming across one and having your personal information compromised.  But just as AI gets smarter, so do those that want that information from you.  And Google seems to be a major target right now.

Good Golly!  Gmail Gets Got Again with New Phishing Scam

The popular email service offered through Google has been targeted again through a new phishing scam online.  The company is warning Gmail users about a new fake alert that is designed to steal your passwords or possibly take over your phone.

The suspicious activity alert really does appear to be valid, even referencing sign in attempts from different locations to appear legitimate.  The fake email offers (of course) a link for the recipient to click, but it opens a phony Google page that then will steal your Gmail password and phone number.

Android Users Are Especially Susceptible to This New Online Hoax

Google stated that real alerts from the company have been copied to appear even more believable, trying to scare people into giving out private information.  The malicious link included in the alerts are even more dangerous for Android users, with malware that could give hackers the ability to spy on your phone activity, steal data or even take remote control of your device.

Google is urging users of their service to never click links on suspicious activity emails and offer an easier way to check if there are alerts for your account.  Go directly to your account and follow the "security" link, then "recent security events" to verify is there are legitimate alerts.
