A Busy Few Weeks for GFFR, Retirements, Fires and More in Great Falls

The past few weeks have been busy for the Great Falls Fire Rescue teams across the city.  Several larger structure fires have occurred, and it was announced that Assistant Chief Bob Shupe would be retiring.

After 29 years of service within the department, Shupe officially retired on October 30th, 2024, with a ceremony in his honor.

Installation of New Assistant Chief and Recruits in Great Falls

Earlier this week in Great Falls, the GFFR held a swearing in ceremony to install a new Assistant Chief and welcome 4 new recruits into the department.

Great Falls Mayor Corey Reeves had the honor of swearing in the new recruits during the ceremony.  Friends, family, colleagues and the public were all present during the event.

New recruits include Eddie Scheidler, Bryce Nelson, Tim Egnoski and Jake Bloom.

The ceremony also featured Mayor Reeves installing the new Assistant Chief of Operations in Great Falls.

In accepting the role, new Assistant Chief of Operations Jeremy Virts stated that "Mayor Reeves and I started our public service journey in Great Falls the same day, many years ago. Our GFPD badge #’s were 218 and 219. Ran a lot of tough calls together, but also a lot of rewarding calls. It was an honor today, Cory."

More Announcements Made During Great Falls Ceremony

As an additional part of the ceremony, special recognition was given to Assistant Chief of Prevention, Mike McIntosh.  McIntosh was honored for " his hard work and time invested into being a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer program."
