Now that the holidays are passed and you await that dreaded credit card bill, instead of sweating about it, think about how you could make some of that back. And you would be able to help our local students and schools by doing so.
The Tax Credit for Great Falls Public Schools and for the students within the halls of them is an excellent way to help provide supplemental funding for innovative educational programs in the Electric City.

How to Help Great Falls Students and Schools with Tax Credits
For GFPS and students, the tax credit program allows extra money to be allocated to specific programs offered through the school system. In the past, tax credits have helped the schools pay for:
- STEM and innovative learning center improvements
- Summer innovative learning programs
- Innovative learning through student athlete mental health programming
- Special education including adaptive learning

The dollar-for-dollar tax credit is created from a $7.2 million dollar fund created by the Montana Legislature. The tax credits are limited and are offered through the schools on a first come, first serve basis.
Deadline Approaching to Claim Credits on Your 2026 Tax Forms
The tax credit is available to taxpayers who donate to the Great Falls Public School District. To be eligible to claim on your 2026 Montana state taxes, you must purchase credits before January 21, 2026, to qualify.
