Cybercriminals are everywhere on the interwebs.  They are in your email, your chat rooms, and even targeting your phone.  I often find myself just deleting things; important or not, just so I don't "accidentally" click a malicious link.

The "phishing" for information in cyber land can catch you off guard at any point.  Even on your social media account.  Just like it did for me and my personal Facebook account.

Which Popular Music Artist Sent Me a Friend Request?

I don't often check on my personal Facebook, as normally I am keeping track of our studio pages.  But logging in to my account yesterday, imagine my surprise to see a friend request from a country artist:

My reaction was kind of like not being able to find your golf ball on a par 3 that you know you hit the green with.  You always look in the hole, being somewhat hopeful.  It was the same thing with this request from Mr. Rice; I really did do a double take and had to check out the profile.

I Knew it Wasn't Really Him, But Some Went Ahead and Clicked OK

It was pretty simple to decipher that this really wasn't the Chase Rice that sent me a friend request.  A quick look at a couple of obvious discrepancies were easy to spot in the profile:

Notice the name and number of friends?  Those numbers behind the name and just 21 followers were the first red flags.  And no pictures also hit my radar as pretty darn odd.  But it doesn't mean that there was some glimmer of hanging with the actual Chase Rice.

My point in all of this is cybercriminals will target anyone and everyone.  You don't get a bit if you don't throw out a line, right?  Don't be the foolish fish falling for the fake phishing accounts.
