For hunters in Montana, there is a special tag that is coveted by anyone who loves to put meat in the freezer when fall hits.  It is even referred to as the "hunt of a lifetime" within the state.

If you haven't done it yet, your opportunity to get your name in the hat for these tags is rapidly approaching and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is reminding those hunters to make sure they get their submissions in.

What is a Montana SuperTag for Hunting?

The Montana FWP issues a SuperTag for 8 select people each year via a lottery style drawing.  Those tags include the privilege of hunting some of the most wanted game in the state.

The tags are issued for:

  • moose
  • bighorn sheep
  • mountain goat
  • antelope
  • elk
  • deer
  • bison
  • mountain lion

One SuperTag will be drawn for each species and the tag can be used in any hunting district in Montana, including Montana's legendary trophy districts.

Deadline Approaching at the End of June in Montana for SuperTag Entries

If you want to try your luck at one of these tags, you will first need a conservation license.  Each entry is $5 and there is no limit on the number of entries a person can purchase.

The deadline for entry is June 30, 2025, at 11:45pm MDT.  SuperTag chances are also available for purchase at FWP offices and license providers.  You can find out more about the SuperTag at the MFWP website here.
