Why It’s Good The Great Falls Mugshot FB Page Was Put Down
Great Falls Mugshots, The Facebook Page, Was Shut Down
It's been about a week (as of writing) since one of my favorite local Facebook pages was put down. I'm talking about Great Falls Mugshots. It was a fun local page.
I honestly didn't follow that page JUST for the mugshots. I'm not going to lie, I love seeing them. It's like a car wreck that you know you shouldn't look at, but you do anyway. I also followed the page because whoever ran it is funny. These days, a little levity is worth almost as much as a dozen eggs.
I Agree That Mugshots Shouldn't Be Shared
As much as I love the page, it's bad business to post mugshots. Let me explain.
Working for Townsquare and writing these articles has taught us a few things about a few things. One of them is mugshots.
Yes, JD writes a Cascade County Most Wanted article nearly every month. Those contain mugshots, so what's up with that?

Why Fresh Arrest Mugshots Shouldn't Be On The Internet
Here's the difference between the Most Wanted and the Mug Shots.
Mug shots are people who have been arrested for suspicion of committing a crime. There has been nothing at this point to determine actual guilt or innocence, like a trial. At the mug shot moment, the guilt of that person is mostly speculation, no matter how solid the evidence. Know why? No. Trial.

Most wanted are people who have been convicted of a crime and have absconded from the law in one way or another. They had a trial or plea agreement and were obviously found guilty.

The Internet Is Forever
Everyone knows nobody can actually delete something off of the internet. Once it's up, even just for the tiniest amount of time, it may as well be forever.
So your neighbor Bob was arrested for DUI and it turns out it was Diabetes or Epilepsy or Ataxia or even Auto-Brewery Syndrome. When neighbor Bob goes to court or whatever and shows the judge his medical reason for appearing intoxicated, the charges against neighbor Bob are dropped because he was not guilty of DUI. Yet, his mugshot from the day he had the worst epileptic seizure of his life will follow him around for THE REST OF HIS LIFE.
It's not ok.

Goodbye my Facebook friend, Great Falls Mugshots. It was a good, but short run. I will remember you and your humor fondly.
