Family Abductions

About half of all child abductions reported are Family Abductions.  A Family Abduction is typically a parental abduction and a large number of those taking the children are women.

Non Family/Stranger Abduction

Twenty Seven percent of all child abductions and kidnappings are by non-family members and acquaintances.   These types of abductions are generally of females and teenagers and usually comes with another crime like sexual assault. Stranger abduction usually happens outside and with the help of a gun. These generally result in sexual assault for female victims and robbery for male victims.

Runaway

One in seven kids from ten to eighteen will run away from home.  Seventy five percent of the runaways are females.  Between twenty and forty percent of runaways are part of the LGBTQ community.  Half of runaways are running from physical or sexual abuse by a member of their household.

What do you do if you find a missing child

Best advice is DO NOT take the child with you.  Call 911 and try and keep the child in the area.  If you can't keep the child in the area, get as much information as you can from the child (clothing, description, etc) and the vehicle the child is being taken in.
