Montana anglers have a new place to launch their next adventure. 

A new public fishing access site on Flathead Lake is now officially open, giving anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts another opportunity to enjoy one of Montana's most popular recreation destinations.

The new Conclow Fishing Access Site is located near Dayton on the west shore of Flathead Lake and provides direct lake access, shoreline fishing opportunities, and a boat launch. The site also features interpretive signs highlighting the area's history and the historic Conclow Homestead.

One of the highlights of the new access site is its location directly across from Wild Horse Island, the largest island on Flathead Lake and a popular destination for wildlife viewing and outdoor recreation.

The property offers approximately 650 feet of shoreline and was acquired to help increase public access to Flathead Lake, where access opportunities can be limited during the busy summer season.  

Visitor Regulations for a Safe Experience

Visitors should be aware of site regulations: 

  • Open from sunrise to sunset  
  • No overnight camping  
  • Conservation license required for visitors ages 12 and older
  • Permits required for commercial use and groups of 30 or more  
  • Stay on designated roads and authorized travel routes  
  • Pack out all trash  
  • No hunting allowed  
  • Discharge of firearms and other weapons is prohibited year-round  

Honoring History at Conclow Fishing Access

The site's name honors the Conclow family, members of the Kootenai Tribe who were assigned the property as an Indian allotment and homestead in 1908. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the area while respecting its historical significance and viewing the homestead from outside the fenced area.

The site is located within the Flathead Indian Reservation and is administered by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Those planning to fish or recreate in the area should check tribal licensing requirements before heading out.
