Will Marijuana Remain Legal In Montana?
Currently Senate Bill No. 255, put forward by the senator representing district 7, Greg Hertz, is looking to revise the laws surrounding recreational marijuana.
In the bill, it would require residents looking to purchase legal recreational marijuana to be issued a marijuana ID card and to pay $200 per year to purchase said marijuana.
It also doesn't look as if this is the only bill targeting legal marijuana coming out of Helena for this legislative session.
Didn't We Already Vote On This?
There are numerous bills being put forth by legislators in Helena, all of which deal with "revising" marijuana laws.
Last I saw, there were close to 40 (if not more) of these bills that deal with marijuana or with the cannabis industry.
Now granted this bill doesn't actually remove legal marijuana from the state, but back in November of 2020 almost 60% of Montana residents voted to pass I-190, which legalized marijuana for those 21 and older, so why then does it seem those in Helena want to change the will of the voters?
