The “Highway of Death” Documentary Highlights Local Stories

Montana has some of the most scenic drives in America thanks to stretches of highway such as the "Going-to-the-Sun-Road" or the "Beartooth Highway."

We also have some of the most dangerous and fatal highways as well, and it's one of those highways that is the subject of a new documentary.

Montana’s Highways: Scenic Views And Deadly Risks

Arguably the most famous "deadly" highway is US-93, thanks to the songs written about it and the bumper stickers you see proclaiming "Pray For Me, I Drive 93."

It's another highway, called the 'Highway of Death' by locals and drivers, that is now the subject of a new documentary.

That highway is US Highway 212.

US Highway 212: The “Highway of Death”

US Highway 212 is a 140-mile stretch known for its scenic views, serving as a major route through the Northern Cheyenne and Crow Reservations, but also one that has seen its share of deadly accidents.

The students who are part of the documentary film program at the University of Montana School of Journalism interviewed those who have lost loved ones on the stretch of highway.

Even after a 10-year study by the Montana DOT and millions of dollars toward improvements, accidents continued.

Voices Of Those Affected: Remembering Lives Lost

This documentary is the chance for those affected by this highway to not only have their voice heard but also have the story of those they lost be told and not forgotten.
