Montana Braces for a Scorching Summer in 2025

As a kid, my favorite season was summer. No school, the freedom to do whatever we wanted, and of course the warm temperatures.

I still love summer; I'm just not as big of a fan of those days when the temperature reaches triple digits, which might happen more this year than in the past.

How Hot Is Too Hot? Temps May Shatter Records

While it's possible to see temperatures go over 100 in Montana, thankfully, we're pretty lucky that we don't get long consecutive stretches of triple digit temperatures.

Great Falls saw just 2 days; Billings also had only 2 days; however, Missoula saw 7 days go over 100.

This year the Weather Channel, however, is predicting we could see far more days reaching record highs this summer.

Drier, Hotter Months Ahead for Big Sky Country

While we mentioned we didn't see many days over 100, we did have numerous stretches where we saw temperatures between 95 and 99 degrees.

That's in line with the Weather Channel's prediction for 2024, which they said would be one of the hottest on record, and they were right on the money.

This year, they are predicting even hotter temperatures, as they say the temperatures will be far above average compared to years past.

If you compare the two maps, you'll see in 2024 we were in the "orange" for above-average temperatures; this year we're solidly "maroon" for June, July, and August, meaning even higher temperatures.

To make matters worse, they are also predicting our area to have a "persistently dry summer."

So above-normal temperatures this year, well, what are "normal" temperatures? Take a look at the gallery below to find out.
