Food Ingredients Under The Microscope

Earlier this year, the new United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., released updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans as part of his push to Make America Healthy Again, also known as MAHA.

RFK Jr. is not the only one paying closer attention to what we are eating. Soon, you may start noticing some familiar items missing from grocery store shelves due to health concerns.

The Ingredient Behind Many Food Bans Right Now

Even though these new dietary guidelines were just released, several states have been working for years to clean up the ingredients used in everyday foods.

Science is always changing, which means things we once thought were perfectly fine are now being reexamined. And who knows, maybe some of these foods will be back in our good graces 25 years from now.

The main reason many of these products are being removed, both here in Montana and across America, comes down to Red Dye #3.

Foods Could Disappear From Grocery Store Shelves

This artificial coloring has been banned in Europe for years. California also passed a law back in 2023 that banned the dye.

That law gave companies until January 1, 2027, to remove Red Dye #3 from their products. Not long after that, the FDA announced it would revoke approval for Red Dye #3 in food as well, with a nationwide deadline of January 15, 2027.

Rather than waiting until the last minute, several companies have already started removing the dye from their ingredient lists. As a result, some popular products may look a little different or disappear entirely the next time you head to the store.

Here are some of the products that could be missing from your next shopping trip.
