New Minimum Wage Might Affect This Job Sector in Montana

In case you missed it, the minimum wage in Montana will be going up as of January 1st, 2024.  Currently the wage is set at $9.95, but it will increase by .35 cents to $10.30 in the new year.

That is great.  More money in our pockets, you can't beat it.  Especially with prices in the current market requiring a little more money at the end of the month.  Oftentimes it seems the other way around, with more month than money.

We Aren't the Only State Giving Workers a Little More Money

California will also be raising their minimum wage in the new year, by a whopping $4!  Currently set at $16 per hour, that will jump to $20 beginning in April.  The idea is that it will help those especially in the fast-food business, helping to create a somewhat living wage for people.  Great deal, right?

Apparently though, according to Yahoo News, it will have some adverse effects to a certain group of workers.  Those that are delivering our food to us.  Yep, delivery drivers are on the block by one major corporation in California.  Could it happen here?

You're Going to Get Rid of All of the What!?!?!

In that same article, the major franchise owners in California of Pizza Hut have decided that:

PacPizza, LLC, operating as Pizza Hut, has made a business decision to eliminate first-party delivery services and, as a result, the elimination of all delivery driver positions

It will ultimately affect over 1,200 workers who will be out of a job by February of next year.  Could it happen in Montana?

Probably not.  Without a plethora of people to pick up slack with Uber or Lyft, I am pretty sure that layoffs won't be coming to this particular work in our city.  But could we see higher prices due to the minimum wage?
