Football fans across Montana are preparing for the biggest matchup of the season. The annual Brawl of the Wild between Montana State and the University of Montana will take place at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in Missoula on Saturday. The two teams are set to face off in the 122nd rendition of the highly anticipated in-state rivalry.

If you live in Montana, you're either a Bobcat fan or a Griz fan, and there isn't any event that comes close to being as hyped as the Brawl of the Wild each year. Each team has diehard fans who will do almost anything to show support for their favorite team. Unfortunately, some fans get a little too excited and have been known to take their celebrations too far in the past. When it comes to the Brawl of the Wild, it's easy for fans to let their emotions get the best of them.

There are certain chants that are common at both schools that highlight the disdain that fans have for the opposing team. You may recognize the acronyms "FTG" or "FTC." If you're a fan of either team, you already know what those letters stand for.

Montana State University sent a message to fans encouraging them to keep their celebrations civil and help ensure that the Brawl of the Wild in Washington-Grizzly Stadium is a "spirited and welcoming experience for all."

The Montana State Bobcats' Code of Champions Asks Fans to Keep the Following Principles in Mind

  • We all represent Bobcats. Do so with class and displays of sportsmanship.
  • Respect all staff, fans, officials, student-athletes, and opposing teams.
  • Cheer long and LOUD - in a respectful manner.
  • Refrain from behaviors that are unruly or disruptive.
  • Demonstrate responsible behavior when consuming alcoholic beverages.
  • Respect all facility regulations and event staff personnel.

MSU also reminded fans that "Nothing speaks louder than having class."

We're not sure how many fans will actually listen to the advice, but we hope that this year's Brawl of the Wild is an enjoyable experience for all.
