Kangaroos in Montana? Here’s What You Need to Know
According to the Facebook page Cooke City Friends, the National Park Service has already started to release 75 kangaroos to Yellowstone, the first group released just today.
To be specific, they are introducing the Antilopine kangaroo, typically found in the northern region of Australia.
It's believed that these animals, who live in packs and graze on grass, will fit right in with the other animals already living in the park.
Will These Aussie Hoppers Thrive Under the Big Sky?
The introduction of these wild animals to Montana has been the culmination of years of planning and preparation.
The reason these particular kangaroos were chosen is that "Antilopine" means resembling antelopes, so it was assumed they would survive in Montana, since we already have a thriving antelope population.
Now it's time to see if the assumption was correct.
