Why Are Used Cars So Expensive In Montana?
I've never been what you would call a "car guy." So I've never really had a desire to go out and get a new car.
I’m also cheap and know a car’s value drops dramatically the exact instant you drive off the lot.
For those reasons, I've always chosen to buy used cars. However, here in Montana, we seem to be getting shortchanged when it comes to used car prices. There could be some explanations for this situation.
What’s Driving Up The Cost Of Used Cars In Montana?
The website named World Population Review claims that Montana has on average the 3rd highest used car prices in America, with only Alaska and Wyoming having higher prices.
They claim that factors such as demand, market conditions, and local regulations can drive prices up, which makes sense in Alaska, where their remote location would drive up costs. I just don't see why prices are so much higher in Wyoming or Montana, but I have a theory.
Could Montana’s Need For Trucks Impact Used Car Prices?
Most people in Montana and Wyoming drive trucks. Just a quick search on Cars.com for a Ford F-150 truck shows the cheapest to be over $13,000, with the highest being over $107,000.
The median of those two would be $60,000, which is about $12,000 than the average of used car cost of $38,934 that World Population Review says we have here in Montana.
If we've got far more used trucks for sale than used cars, then it makes sense that Montana is above the national average of $24,735.
