Honestly, I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry after reading a newly published New York Times article.

It’s called “A Guide to Living in Whitefish, Montana,” and I’ve definitely got some thoughts.

Why Is Whitefish Being Marketed Even More?

First off, why is the New York Times trying to convince even more people to move to Whitefish? This is a town that has already seen a massive population jump since Covid.

The article even admits that the pandemic migration has pushed working-class folks, like teachers and service industry workers, along with other long-term residents, out of town because housing has become so expensive.

And that does not even touch on the strain being put on local infrastructure, like road maintenance, with so many more vehicles using the same streets.

Pandemic Migration And The Yellowstone Effect

A lot of longtime residents point to the TV show Yellowstone and the rise of remote work after the pandemic as big reasons for the population boom.

Sure, more people and more money can bring some positive changes. But many locals feel Whitefish has lost some of that small mountain town charm that made it special in the first place.
