"What is in a name?"

Shakespeare asked that question in "Romeo and Juliet" and it meant that a name or a word only helps distinguish that person or object. Which is why I find it so funny that you can find Montana towns with first names.

I've wrote before about a Montana town that once changed it's name to a first name as a radio stunt back in the 90's. Ismay Montana for one glorious NFL season changed their name to JOE on a dare from a Kansas City radio station when Joe Montana signed with the Chiefs.

They sadly changed back to Ismay after that one season, but there are way more towns in Montana that have a town name that you'd expect to find more often in a phone book than located on a map.

It's funny how names and words work, because hearing a name like "Conrad" doesn't seem that odd for a name for a town, while hearing "Terry" as a name does. Both are first names however and in reality are a bit of an odd choice for a town name. Looking back at the line from Shakespeare, neither one does much to distinguish or describe the town.

It also doesn't hurt that we're more familiar with a town name like "Conrad" than "Terry" so it doesn't sound as odd as some of the following Montana town names with a first name.
