"What is in a name?"

That question was written by Shakespeare and asked in "Romeo and Juliet"; it means that a name or a word only helps distinguish that person or object.

Which is why I find it so funny that you can find Montana towns with first names.

Is That a Town or a Person?

I've written before about a Montana town that once changed its name to a first name as a radio stunt back in the 90s.

Ismay, Montana, for one glorious NFL season changed their name to Joe on a dare from a Kansas City radio station when Joe Montana signed with the Chiefs.

They sadly changed back to Ismay after that one season, but there are way more towns in Montana that have a town name that you'd expect to find more often in a phone book than located on a map.

It's funny how names and words work, because hearing a name like "Conrad" doesn't seem that odd for a name for a town, while hearing "Terry" as a name does.

Both are first names, however, and in reality are a bit of an odd choice for a town name. Looking back at the line from Shakespeare, neither one does much to distinguish or describe the town.

Either way, check out these towns in Montana that you are on a first-name basis with.👇
