How Many Times Can You Legally Circle A Roundabout In Montana?
When it comes to driving, many of us have heard strong opinions about the way people drive in various areas. What's interesting to me, is how many of us never seem to question the background of the person who complains about driving, right?
It's usually those with bad driving habits who are first to speak up, but what if they don't know just how bad they are driving?
Weird Things People Do While Driving
People do all sorts of stuff while driving ranging from "getting ready" in the mirror above the steering wheel, eating cereal with milk (yes, I've seen this), and a plethora of other things that are probably not safe.

But what about the things people do with their vehicle? Maybe they park weird, maybe they don't cross roads with more than four lanes, or maybe... they spend more time than they should driving in a roundabout.
This leads us to why we're here in the first place because curious minds want to know...
How Many Times Can You Legally Circle A Roundabout?
Why would anyone circle a roundabout more than they have to? Maybe it's to buy more time before having to go home to deal with whatever may or may not be waiting for you. Maybe it's a form a therapy or maybe, some people just like to roll their window down and say "WEEEEE!"
Whatever the case is, we have the answer for you and it's simple: there is no limit.

When looking at MT SB433, which is the Montana bill addressing roundabouts, the major takeaway is all about right-of-way in roundabouts. In this case, this bill says that tow vehicles have the right-of-way.
In the Montana Department of Transportation's FAQ about roundabouts, there is no mention of a "legal limit" to how many times you can circle a roundabout.
But Don't Get Too Excited About Roundabouts Just Yet...
One of my favorite sayings ever is: "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
And that couldn't be more true with this particular scenario. Can you legally circle a roundabout multiple times? Sure. Should you?
Probably not. Not only will you likely draw suspicion of law enforcement, but it's also probably not as safe as one would think. With a car lingering in the roundabout for an unpredictable amount of time, it can create unpredictable situations that some drivers might not necessarily be prepared for.
With all of that being said, we're not here to tell you what to do! But we can advise you to continue to drive safely... especially if you're taking in the sights like the Griswolds.
