Since the weather has continued to be so nice across Big Sky Country, this little bit of news may have slipped by you earlier this week.  But the US Postal Service is already thinking ahead to the Christmas season.

USPS is the home of Operation Santa, and families across Montana and America are asked to help fulfill the wishes of thousands of children and families that might not be able to have a present-filled Christmas morning waiting under the tree.

Montana Families Can Get Ready for Operation Santa Now

USPS has kicked off the 113th year of Operation Santa as of September 15th, 2025, with the mailroom now accepting letters.  Operation Santa is an initiative that helps children, entire families or individuals with the ability to send holiday letters that are matched with those willing to fulfill those gift ideas.

For those writing letters to Santa, they will be accepted from now until December 6, 2025, the final day letters can be postmarked.  The USPS offers ideas to include in your letter here.

How To Adopt a Letter in Montana with Operation Santa and USPS

If you, your family or business want to adopt letters for the Operation Santa program, you will need to register first beginning on November 3rd, 2025.  Adopters will need to complete a registration form and an ID verification process.  Once completed and accepted, adoption of letters begins on November 17th, 2025.  Gifts are able to be sent using the USPS service up to December 13th, 2025.
