How Safe Is Montana's Drinking Water?

How often do you stop and think about how safe your drinking water is here in Montana?

Honestly, unless the water tastes off, I never think about what is in the water we're drinking, but thankfully someone out there is testing and tracking our water to make sure it's safe.

Who’s Keeping An Eye On What We Drink?

The Environmental Working Group is a nonprofit organization that monitors drinking water and identifies contaminants present in our water supply.

Their website allows you to break down the drinking water statistics from almost any region in America.

It even breaks it down based upon the amount of people each region serves, and today we'll be looking at the biggest cities in Montana and seeing how clean or dirty their water is.

Looking At Water Quality In Montana

Before we see how safe the water is here under the Big Sky, did you know that America as a whole has some of the safest drinking water anywhere in the world?

A big reason for that is the "Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974"; once this was passed, every state started to improve their drinking water on a massive scale.

Still, there are going to be some places that improved their drinking water more than others and, as such, have cleaner water than their neighbors.

So let's take a look at the utilities serving over 10,000 people in the Treasure State and see what contaminants were detected in their drinking water.
