Having Montana show up on Top 10 lists sometimes can be good, but also can be bad. Top 10 lists for best places to vacation. Good. Top 10 lists for places to avoid. Bad. Which is why this list that Montana shows up on is one that we cannot really decide if it is good or bad.

Taxes

Yep we are talking about taxes here.  Well sort of, more to the point we are talking about our tax dollars and how much funding Montana receives from the Federal Government. Love it or hate it, taxes make the world work. It is how we pay for almost everything when it comes to city, state, and federal spending. Some states get more back than they send to Washington D.C.

Montana is one of those states that gets back more than they send according to the website Smart Asset. Montana depends on federal dollars quite a bit actually. For starters as we said we get back more than we pay. For every dollar we pay we get back $1.04. That might seem like much, but it makes us 17th highest for all states.

We also rank 8th highest percentage for all Federal Government employees at 3.54%. Finally just under half of all our total revenue in the state is federally funded sitting at 46.58%. Uncle Sam is sure opening his wallet to Montana.

Personally I don't think it's a bad thing that we get more back than we send in, but being less reliant on the Federal Government would be good as well.
