To Sleazy Scammers 'Do Not Call' Lists Make No Difference
If there is one thing we know about criminals, it is that the laws around scams and the punishments that come from breaking those laws really don't matter, especially when there is money to be made.
That's why scammers utilize something called the "One Ring Scam."
Have you ever had your phone ring and it only rings through just one time then it stops?
Well, you were just the victim of a one ring scam. The scammers are hoping that you'll pick up your phone and call them back.
Here is why you should just ignore those calls and others like them according to the FCC:
If you call back, you risk being connected to a phone number outside the U.S. As a result, you may wind up being charged a fee for connecting, along with significant per-minute fees for as long as they can keep you on the phone. These charges may show up on your bill as premium services, international calling, or toll-calling.
