Heartbreak In Billings: A Lost Service Dog

Losing a pet is hard enough, but losing a service dog takes it to a whole different level.

That recently happened in Billings when Heather Duncan, from Oklahoma, came to town with her service dog, Handsome.

Frantic Search Across the City

While Heather was packing up in her hotel room, Handsome managed to slip out unnoticed. What started as a frantic search of the hotel quickly grew into a town-wide effort.

Signs were posted, rewards were offered, and Heather even stood on the sidewalk holding a picture of Handsome, hoping someone would spot him and bring him back.

Unfortunately, the story ends in heartbreak, according to KTVQ.

Tragic Ending Near Interstate 90

Handsome was found dead along Interstate 90, a stark reminder of how dangerous it can be when a dog is loose near busy traffic.

For Heather, it wasn’t just the loss of a dog—it was losing a trusted partner who was part of her everyday life.

Heather, who had been planning to leave last Friday, held a small memorial for Handsome, honoring the time they spent together.

Our hearts go out to Heather, and we hope that even with this tragedy, her time in Montana holds some positive memories she can carry with her.
