Where Do Travelers Want To Visit Most In Montana?

Tourism makes up a big part of economy in Montana, and for good reason.

Having two national parks, Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park, means millions of visitors a year; however, not everyone wants to fight the crowds at these places when they visit Montana.

Montana Is More Than Just National Parks

The travel blog "Barefoot Cruising Indonesia" asked 3,000 international travelers what offbeat American landmarks were at the top of their must-visit list.

I love seeing lists like this, because while it's fun to see the big famous landmarks, getting off the beaten path really allows you to connect better to the places you're visiting.

Some of the best memories and conversations I've had while traveling came from some of the most unexpected places. So what unexpected places do tourists want to experience under the Big Sky?

Montana Is Home To Many Wonderful Museums

Montana had two mentions on their list of 120, the first one coming in at #48 and the second one at #100.

Let's highlight the one coming in at #100 first.

The World Museum of Mining: Butte, Montana

Mining is very central to Butte, so it only makes sense that it's home to the "World Museum of Mining," which was founded in 1963.

The museum allows visitors to see the history of mining in Butte, along with preserving the history of Butte, which can't be told without mining.

The highlight of the visit is the ability to tour an actual underground mine named "Orphan Girl Mine."

The Museum of the Rockies: Bozeman, Montana

Sliding in at #48, you'll find the "Museum of the Rockies" located in Bozeman, Montana.

Housing one of the largest collections of dinosaur bones in the world, this museum will entertain the entire family.

It is also an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, which gives the museum access to all the collections and programs they have.
