Montana’s Wide Open Spaces And Hidden Places

Out here in Montana, it doesn’t take much to remind you that most of the map is still pretty wide open.

It's not just Montana as every state has some hidden place tucked away that not everybody knows about, even folks who live in the same state.

What Makes A Destination Feel Hidden or Rare

That’s kind of the idea behind a list put together by Stacker and Atlas Obscura, where they highlight each state’s most hidden destination.

They looked at how many people say they “want to visit” a place and compared it to how many people have actually "been there".

So you get a list of places people are curious about, but few have actually visited, which is what makes them feel so hidden or rare.

Montana’s Pick For A Hidden Destination Worth Exploring

When it comes to Montana, they landed on a pretty solid pick. It’s the kind of place that’s way out there, and unless you make a point to go find it, you might not even realize it’s there.

But one of the earliest visitors to the area back in the late 1800s had this to say about it:

“As fantastically beautiful a place as I have ever seen.”

That was said by a young rancher named Theodore Roosevelt, and if you want to see what he was talking about, just scroll through the gallery below to find out.
