Grocery Prices in Montana

When it comes to rising prices on items, there are a few things that you can save money on by no longer buying.

Food, however, is one product that you just can not cut out completely.

We need to eat to survive, and while you can cut back or start buying "generic," you are going to at some point have to buy some groceries.

That's why I'm sad that Great Falls residents seem to be paying more than some of our neighbors in other Montana cities.

How do I know that we're paying more in Great Falls?

U.S. News and World Report looked into the cost of groceries in America, and figured out the seven cheapest places to buying groceries.

Not one of those places is located in Great Falls.

While the number one cheapest place, ALDI is not located at all in Montana, the number three and number seven locations are.

WinCo Foods

WinCo Foods is the third cheapest and our neighbors in Helena, Bozeman, Billings and Missoula are all able to shop there.

Helena, Bozeman, Kalispell, Missoula and Billings all have the option of buying from Costco.

The last couple of years has been rough for a lot of Montanans as the supply chain was disrupted over the whole pandemic. Of course, we're now a few years removed, and yet certain items are still hard to come by.

Although we've "officially" moved on, there are now other factors that are being blamed for higher prices and lower supply. The war in Ukraine, high fuel costs, lack of manpower, etc. It seems there are several reasons behind it, and none of them look like they're in our favor as consumers.

So what does this all mean?  It means that we're looking at a possible shortage when it comes to groceries. Sadly, most of the items on the list are staples that we tend to use on a regular basis.
